World Cup fever will hit High Street Kensington’s Jubilee Square on 27th June with a free football festival. The aromas and flavours of the competing nations – from Brazilian steaks and Mexican tacos to Spanish paella – will provide a tempting choice at the event’s global street food pop-up, alongside a dedicated ‘football zone’ with a DJ and games galore.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the all-day event will feature a giant 14-person table football, fun sub-soccer pods (a table football game played with your feet), a spin-to-win game (with amazing prizes up for grabs) plus a skills showcase by a freestyle footballer. Adding a touch of comedy, slapstick actors will interact with the crowds disguised as larger than life pundits and referees. And, in celebration of Kensington’s international cultures and participating World Cup countries, there will be a world-flag face-painting artist plus a multitude of cultural performances including samba dancers and musicians.
Providing the perfect base for a football-themed day, the festival will run alongside the regular vintage market – offering the ideal opportunity to pick up a retro football shirt – before an early evening kickabout in one of the many local parks. Attention can then turn to the England v Panama game, with many of Kensington’s favourite venues including Passyunk, the Britannia, Scarsdale and The Greyhound screening the match.
